  1. Choose the intended app and publisher at the download destination.
  2. Read its current release details and compare the Android requirement with your phone.
  3. Follow the documented installation route, then review permissions and recovery settings.

Read the publisher, version and permissions shown at the destination before installing.

APK, archive and bundle

A .apk file is an Android installation package. A bundle or archive can contain several components and needs the publisher’s documented installation method. Preserve the original format and use the instructions for that distribution.

SHA-256: 256 bits and 64 hexadecimal characters

SHA-256 produces a 256-bit value, commonly written as 64 hexadecimal characters. Compare a file with a reference value published through a trusted publisher channel to detect a byte mismatch. A hash comparison answers the integrity question; publisher identity and software behaviour require their own checks.

Three checks before installation

  1. Confirm the completed file matches the publisher’s format instructions.
  2. Compare its trusted reference hash when the publisher supplies one.
  3. Check package identity and device support before replacing an installed app.
